Progressive Design-Build is not a spectator sport. PDBC can help owners and design-build teams who do not have substantial experience in performing progressive design-build to prepare themselves and their teams to get ready to participate in the hands on, heavily collaborative delivery method.
PDBC provides training to the entire team on how PDB differs from any other delivery method. Robynne, Geoff, and Becky are three of the few approved instructors for the Design-Build Institute of America’s Progressive Design-Build Done Right Course, which provides a general overview of the delivery method. As the project progresses, PDBC provides advanced training that is specific to the processes that have been developed specifically for the project, including procurement, decision making, stakeholder engagement, change management, development of the cost, schedule, and scope, and implementation of the project.
Robynne has practiced construction law for over three decades and has participated in over 40 PDB contracts. The result is an industry vetted set of contract documents that can be tailored to any project. She works with the owner’s counsel to either provide a full set of contract documents or supplement the owner’s established documents and processes to accommodate progressive design-build.
Geoff was instrumental in creating SFO’s progressive design-build program and has developed many forms to help owners be efficient in executing design-build projects, including cost models, forecasting, scheduling, stakeholder engagement, and project evaluation.
Robynne, Geoff, and Becky serve as Project Advocates on the projects they foster to help the parties drive behaviors and decision making towards the best interests of the project. The Project Advocate can be brought into a project by either the owner or the design-build team and acts as a project neutral to help develop and further the project’s goals. The Project Advocate provides training in the PDB delivery method to the entire team, including developing the scope, schedule, and cost within the owner’s budget and schedule. The Project Advocate helps establish and reinforce open lines of communication and decision making and drive true collaborative leadership within the project team to enhance early collaboration. Robynne and Becky have both completed the Design-Build Institute of America’s Collaborative Leadership Academy and will help teams to become the best versions of themselves to drive the project’s success.
PDBC works with owners to develop highly tailored procurements that are designed to select the best design-build team for the project. Using forms that have been vetted on dozens of projects and as well as the industry, PDBC will help the owner examine the scope, risks, and opportunities of each project to develop specific Project Goals, Requests for Qualifications, and Requests for Proposals that discourage generic submissions and provide defensible, qualifications focused selection. PDBC also facilitates the procurement process for owners who are new to progressive design-build to provide guidance and training so that ultimately, the owner feels confident to manage the entire process themselves.
PDBC also works with design-build teams to help them understand the delivery method. Robynne and Becky have reviewed hundreds of SOQs and Proposals and facilitated dozens of procurements. They know how to tailor the submissions from proposers and finalists so that they speak directly to the evaluators and highlight the team’s experience. They can also help teams develop their internal processes to be able to perform the delivery method at the highest level. PDBC can participate in the development of the project by acting as the Project Advocate, driving PDB best practices throughout the project implementation.
Becky has served in every capacity on a design-build project. She has been a designer, a contractor, and an owner’s representative. Her expertise resides in guiding owners and teams through the implementation of the project from the kick off through establishing the commercial terms and beyond.
Geoff helped to manage the $8 billion program at SFO and provides guidance on project decision making, tracking project progress, scheduling, developing the commercial terms, and stakeholder engagement.
PDBC has established strategic partnerships with several prestigious project management firms to enhance their expertise in PDB and provide staffing for the projects we assist. Through our strategic partnerships, we can provide a full range of owner’s representation and design-build team preparedness services.
